Baraka aka Geoffrey Dean is an Electronic Music composer and jazz pianist originating out of Washington D.C. The sound is a unique blend of Electronic, Hip hop, Jazz, R&B, Chillout, Downtempo, Glitch Hop and a variety of other influences.  Baraka adds a unique hybrid of harmonies and original compositions that are sure to interest you with mellow grooves and unique glitch soundscapes. Baraka‘s latest release “Lazarus Chamber” on Itunes, Spotify, and other resellers.

 

Geoffrey Dean began playing piano at the age of 5. An early student of classical music, he minored in classical piano/music at Elon University. At this time he became aware of jazz and began studying it in detail. Beginning with classes at the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University, Dean soon traveled to Boston for an intensive 3 year study of jazz piano performance at the Berklee College of Music. After playing solo piano and in ensembles for a year around Washington D.C. Geoffrey traveled to study under his mentor and former Jazz Messenger Donald Brown at the University of Tennessee. Dean is now a doctoral student of music focusing on jazz piano performance at the University of Illinois.
